Welcome to FS2 - We are the Turtle Class!
People who help us to learn in FS2: Mrs Reid, Mrs Peace & Mrs Lander
This page will give you an overview of what we will be learning over the next half term. If you are unsure about anything or have any questions, please come and see the class teacher.
During our topic 'The Great Outdoors', the children will explore and investigate their local environment and begin to be aware of the similarities and differences between mini-beasts. Through imitating the actions of mini-beasts and learning about different life-cycles, the children will have the opportunity to develop confidence and imagination in movement. We will also be learning to sing a range of campfire songs and will perform these around a campfire. They will use their fire safety knowledge from last half term to keep safe and see these safety rules in action during a real life situation.
The children will experience working with a variety of materials as they weave, make models and explore a range of creative making tasks.
The children will discuss, write and draw about mini-beasts. We will practise writing sentences by producing a set of instructions on how to plant a seed and design a seed packet for the seeds to be put into. The children will then go into the outdoor learning environment to plant them.
In maths lessons, we will sort, count and use other skills such as doubling and halving/sharing to solve problems relating to our topic and our outdoor experiences. We will go on mini-beast hunts and make a graph about the mini-beasts found. The children will begin to explore aspects of measure and develop early understandings of addition and subtraction.
The children will learn to take care of their environment and living creatures. The children will discuss rules for taking care of mini-beasts and think about why these are important. They will follow these rules whilst taking part in mini-beast activities.
During the summer term, we will camp outdoors during school hours. The children will put up pop up tents, partake in lots of exciting outdoor activities and have a teddy bears picnic, eating some food made in class.
Please ensure your child has their book bag with them every day!
PE will continue to be on a Thursday - please ensure your child has a full PE kit in school on this day!
Reading books will be given out and will be changed once a week. Please read at least 4 times a week with your child and record it in their reading record. Each week your child will receive a small prize if they manage this and if you read every week for a full term a larger prize will be given out in assembly.
Please continue to practise reading and writing the sounds and words sent home each week as this will help with your child's progress.
We get thirsty in Turtle Class because we are always so busy - please bring a bottle of water (not juice!) every day - these can be left by the snack area.
We play and learn outside in all weathers so please make sure your child brings a waterproof coat each day and wellies on a really wet day. Now that the weather is getting warmer, sun hats and sun tan cream will also be needed.
Please ensure your child comes in full uniform every day! Please remember that earrings are not allowed in school.
Please encourage your child to be as confident and as independent as possible so that they are ready for Year 1. You can do this by allowing them to hang up their own coat and bag and encouraging them to complete morning jobs with as little help as they require.
Thank you for your support!
