Welcome back to Year 4
We're the Gangsta Granny's!
We will always be trying our best and thinking of our 3Rs - Responsibility, Resilience and Respect.
Class Teacher: Mrs Lawrence
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Henderson and Mrs Cannon
Our topic to start the term is 'What makes chocolate so tasty?' and to help us start it off in the most exciting way possible we will be visiting Cadbury World in Birmingham. Children can find out who first discovered cocoa beans, how John Cadbury developed his business to the multi-million pound company it is now and how chocolate is made. There is also a 4-D experience to enjoy and a few chocolate treats as well, I am sure!
Our topic will have an emphasis on design and technology and children will design and make their own packaging and have a go at creating a brand new chocolate with their own choice of added ingredients.
In the second half of the term we will be answering the question 'Why is England such a great place to live?' We will be finding out about the countryside and animals in our beautiful country as well as some of its fine heritage. We will grow our own plants and write a diary of what happens. The emphasis will be on art and we will take a walk round our local area for inspiration.
We will continue to teach our maths using the mastery approach we have introduced throughout school. Division and Fractions along with problem solving will be the main focus up to the summer holidays. Pupils will continue to be expected to learn their times tables every week as homework, as ALL time tables and their corresponding divisions need to properly leant by the end of Year 4.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is our class text up to half term and children will use ideas from it to write their own adventure story. After the holidays we will look at poetry, writing instructions and the story of The Secret Garden.
Standing for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar we will be focussing on fronted adverbials, punctuation around dialogue and determiners. Children will have a planned spelling session every day
Our two science topics for the term are 'Light and shadows' followed by 'Plants'. We will look at how and why shadows change during the day and what plants need to grow.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
* Our PE days for this year are Tuesdays. Please ensure that we always have kits in for these days, although the best thing would be to bring a kit in at the start of term and leave it in school until the end when we will send it home to be washed.
* Please also make sure that any earrings are removed or removable on these days or your child will be unable to take part in their PE lesson.
